Lighthouse Beach Bash press release

Beach V-Ball Bash Blasts the Comox Valley

Lighthouse Beach Bash
July 26-27
Standard Park, Courtenay, B.C.

Dig out your sunglasses and get set for an adrenaline spike like none other, because some of the best beach volleyball Vancouver Island has ever seen is about to arrive in the Comox Valley.

The Lighthouse Beach Bash will feature eight of the top beach volleyball teams from across North America, plus a stellar lineup of entertainment in the form of dancers, DJs and a live outdoor concert.

“I want to take the Comox Valley by storm and introduce it to the next generation of live athletic entertainment,” says Martin Reader, a Comox-raised pro beach volleyball athlete and the event’s enthusiastic organizer and visionary. “We are setting a new standard of event by combining some of the best beach volleyball North America has to offer, with some of the best North American DJ’s and artists. It should be a blast for all ages!”

The Beach Bash will be in full swing July 26 and 27 at Standard Park in Courtenay, where athletes will compete for a $5,000 purse while local dancers entertain the crowds to the beats of a veritable electronic army of homegrown DJs. The event will feature Bounce-a-rama kids play zone, a beer garden sponsored by Victoria’s Lighthouse Brewing Company as well as a live open-air concert by Vancouver Hip Hop group Sweatshop Union following the action on Saturday evening.

A high octane white themed after-party will carry Saturday’s energy well into Sunday morning through multiple top rated DJ’s and the headliner, German DJ Miles Dyson, who’s worked with modern hip hop legends like Snoop Dogg and is among the top electronic DJs and producers in the world.

“We aspire to produce an event this summer that’s unrivaled in preparation and talent on Vancouver Island. The Comox Valley will have never seen anything like this before,” says Reader. “It’s going to be absolutely off the hook!”

International electronic music superstar notwithstanding, the Lighthouse Beach Bash will be above all else a showcase of local talent, be it entertainment or athletics. Reader himself will be competing with partner Ben Saxton, and five of the remaining eight confirmed teams hail from Vancouver Island, including fellow Comox Valley native, Maverick Hatch.

“Valley businesses have really come together in support of this event and have been eager to get involved,” says Reader. Fluid Bar and Grill will be nourishing the tournament affiliates throughout the weekend and The Old House Village Hotel and Spa will host the athletes and offer discounted rates to tournament VIP pass holders. “I am so pleased with the response from the community, it has been extremely positive and people really want the event to succeed.”

Reader is promoting the tournament, and the sport, at schools throughout northern Vancouver island this month. “I hope to get close to 5,000 kids hyped on positive music and motivate them to get involved in physical activity. We’re going to set up a volleyball court on the grass and have a DJ spin live from the Lighthouse Beach Bash truck, a 2008 Tacoma from Brian Rice Courtenay Toyota with a killer sound system installed by Forbidden Audio.”

Martin Reader, 24, has been playing beach volleyball since he was 10 and remains Canada’s most decorated youth beach volleyball athlete. He now competes mainly in Europe against the best teams in the world as he and Saxton gear up for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Lighthouse Beach bash tickets and weekend VIP passes will be available at select retailers. For more information, visit the official website at www.lighthousebeachbash.ca.
